If you are anything like me, images are and have been, very powerful. Our minds respond incredibly remarkable to input we put into our brains, sometimes not totally conscious of it. Can you remember a time you saw something that prompted you to act or think a certain way? Music is another powerful tool, but we’ll leave that for another day.
Advertising executives and other media influencers have long realized the power of mental imagery. We cry, laugh, get angry or feel sad as we see certain pictures and respond. Our minds are far greater than any computer that has ever been invented or will be. Coupled with the spirit of God, we recognize beauty, humility, honor, suffering and joy to name a few. The list could go on, but my point is, we are the ones to decide what influences us day by day. Many things are thrust in front of us, but thank God we have a free will to choose.
How many times in his preaching did Jesus take everyday life and use it to build imagery in the minds of people he was speaking to?
Matthew 6:26
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Luke 8:5
“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.
As you know there are countless other examples of using words in this case to build mental imagery.
What types of things are you focused on? I would encourage both good words and positive imagery to prompt Godly emotions that can be both a blessing and a wonderful testimony of His goodness and love.
