Are You A Foodie?

Wherever you live I am pretty sure there are an abundance of grocery stores and restaurants that sell a wide variety of foods.  Food from the nearby fields or maybe from a foreign country, representing a certain type of ethnic food. Just within a mile of our house there are quite a lot of choices. We have Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai and Japanese restaurants, to name a few.

In America we are so blessed with many unique food products, some which can be quite adventurous, and you can have pretty much anything delivered.

Food provides the resources necessary for nutrition that help us to be healthy and strong.  As our digestive system does its work (which in and of itself is miraculous) it separates the good from the bad (so to speak).  It metabolizes the good things we eat and disposes of the waste material.  Our bloodstream and literally our life is fed and nourished by the things we eat.

Spiritually too, we need to eat.  We must stay nourished so we can be healthy and strong. In Matthew 4 Jesus made a remarkably simple yet profound statement. It is a quotation from Deut. 8:3

Deuteronomy 8:3 King James Version

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

Matthew 4:4 King James Version

4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The words that proceed from God are either in written form or spoken and those words which were revealed to holy men long ago, were written by revelation from God.

2 Peter 1:20-21 King James Version

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

The words of God, as recorded in the pages of The Bible are words that can be trusted and are life giving. We are familiar with this from the record in Hebrew 4:12.

Hebrews 4:12 King James Version

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The words of God are healing.

 Psalm 107:20 King James Version

20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

The words of God bring light and they give understanding.

Psalm 119:130 King James Version

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

The words of God are truth.

John 17:17 King James Version

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The words of God are faith builders.

Romans 10:17 King James Version

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The words of God are joyfully satisfying.

Jeremiah 15:16 King James Version

16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

The words of God are like a treasure that is rich with a knowledge of God.

Proverbs 2:1-5 King James Version

2 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

And finally, they (the words of God) are greater, better and more satisfying than any meal we have ever had.

Job 23:12 King James Version

12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

May our hearts be forever hungry and may our ears be forever open to receive His words and be fed for eternity.

“The power of God will take you out of your own plans and put you into the plan of God.” “
